There are certain traditions that capture what it truly feels like to be part of the Lake Toxaway Estates community, and the annual Dam-to-Dam Swim is certainly one of them.
On Sunday, September 6, 2026, swimmers of all ages once again took to the beautiful waters of Lake Toxaway for this much-anticipated Labor Day weekend tradition. The swim began at the upper end of the lake and finished at the lower dam, giving participants a memorable journey through the heart of one of Western North Carolina's most beautiful mountain communities.
The Dam-to-Dam Swim is no quick dip in the lake. The route is about two miles long, and many swimmers complete it in approximately an hour. Surrounded by wooded shorelines, mountain views and the calm waters of Lake Toxaway, swimmers make their way toward the dam while homeowners, friends and family members cheer them on. For many participants, the event is about much more than finishing time. It is about the challenge, the tradition and, perhaps most importantly, the community. This year, a few swimmers even received a little unexpected motivation. As they passed one homeowner's dock, they could hear "Eye of the Tiger" playing across the water - a fitting soundtrack for anyone swimming their way across Lake Toxaway!
At the lower dam, family members patiently waited for their swimmers to come into view. After nearly an hour in the water for many participants, reaching the finish is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Watching the swimmers arrive is also part of what makes the Dam-to-Dam Swim so special. The swimmers may be the ones completing the course, but the entire community gets involved. Homeowners watch from their docks, families cheer from the shoreline, friends wait at the finish, and neighbors share in another memorable Lake Toxaway tradition.
